FEBRUARY 13, 2000 STARK COUNTY YOUTH MEETING The Stark County Youth Meeting began as a cooperative effort of the churches of Christ in Stark County in 1968. 620 teens and adults attended that first meeting which was held entirely at the Market Avenue building. They came expecting to hear the popular Jimmy Allen speak, however circumstances kept Allen from coming, and he sent a young preacher to substitute for him. The preacher’s name: Jerry Jones. Jones was such a success that he returned the next year and has been back twice since (1974 & 1997). Other popular speakers over the years have been: Neale Pryor, Patrick Meade, Jimmy Sites, G. P. Holt, Don Ray Williams and Jack Exum. (By the way Jimmy Allen never has spoken at the Youth meeting.) In 1969 the Saturday activities of the Youth Meeting were moved to Malone College and in 1982 they were moved to McKinley High School and Unstattd Performing Arts Hall. In 1997 the Friday evening activities were moved to the 38th Street facility. During the 32 year history we have averaged 1010 registrants each year and have had over 600 responses to the Gospel with over 140 of these being requests for baptisms. We are now ready for the 33rd edition of the Stark County Youth Meeting. Dates for this years meeting are MARCH 24-26. Keynote speaker this year is JEFF JENKINS of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Our theme in 2000 is “DYNAMIC FAITH FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM”. The brochures are now available in the foyer. I want to encourage all our youth in grades 7-college to pick up a brochure, fill out the registration card and put it in the box provided in the foyer. If you do so by MARCH 13 the congregation will pay your registration fee. After that date the fee goes up to $10.00 and you will have to pay the fee. Our adults are reminded that they are welcome at all the activities during the weekend. A special adult class will be taught by GLENN HAWKINS entitled: “CHALLENGES TO OUR FAITH IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM”. Also we will need several adults to work in the kitchen and many other areas as well as provide housing for those coming to the meeting from outside Stark county. Please pray for this year’s meeting and consider where you will be able to use your talents and blessings to help make this another special year. THANK YOU!!!
